By Tom Kleffner, 11/04/17, 2:00PM CDT

Northwestern College Half Time Scrimmage

Thanks to Alicia DuMonceaux (Mother of two boys on the Blaine 5A team), we have an awesome opportunity for the boys on Wednesday, January 17th at 5:30 PM at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul!

The Blaine 5th grade boys basketball teams have been invited to scrimmage at halftime of the UNWSP Men’s Basketball Team’s game verses UM ~ Morris.  Here are the details:

  • Admission to the game for your entire family is FREE so your family can go enjoy the entire game.  It will be super beneficial for the boys to see a college game up close!
  • We will divide the A & B players into 2 equal teams and scrimmage during the 10-minute halftime of the UNWSP game (the same format as the Timberwolves scrimmage).
  • If you cannot make it to the game, but your son is available, myself or one of the coaches will be able to bring them to and from the game.
  • Please RSVP ASAP by emailing me back at and/or by going on NGIN and RSVP’ing there.

Free Throw Fundraiser

Over the course of the season, and as a fun and productive way to raise some funds for Blaine Youth Basketball, the board is asking that we have each of our traveling players Make 75 Free Throws over the course of our practices this season.  As part of making 75 free throws, we are asking that each traveling player finds a minimum of 5 sponsors to commit to a donation for each of these 75 Free Throws made.   Sponsors can come in the form of mom/dad, grandma/grandpa, aunt/uncle, brother/sister, neighbor, teacher, etc.

Step 1:  Please identify and write a short note to their 5 potential sponsors.

  • Please use the attached form titled 17-18 Free-Throw a thon Letter.

The form is also available via our website at the bottom of the Blaine 5B home page.  Link =>

  • You only have to complete the following sections; the rest of the document remains as is;

From:  Player First Name, Last Name, and 5B

Dear:  List the name of the potential sponsor (I.e. Mom/Dad, Grandma/Grandpa, etc.)

Message:  Complete a personalize message from you son to the sponsor.

  • You do not have to mail anything, just return the forms back to me.

Step 2:  Complete the Envelope Template with name/address of potential sponsor receiving the letter.

Step 3:  Return all completed Letters and Envelope Templates to me at any up-coming practice or game.  All forms should be returned no later than Friday, November 17th.   If you have five sponsors, then you should be handing me five completed “Letters” and five completed “Envelope” forms, ten total pieces of paper.

Once all of the teams sponsor letters and envelope forms are received on November 22nd, BYB Board will then begin to send all letters out in the mail to potential sponsors.  Once the BYB board starts getting back forms by the deadline (December 31st, 2017) we will then compile a complete list of sponsors per team & communicate back to us the support your team/players have received and the amount raised!

BYB Administrative Paperwork:

Emergency Information Form

I’m still needing forms for the following players;

  • Jack Olson
  • Garrett Pierpont
  • Charlie Potvin
  • Justin Schmidt

I’ll have empty forms at the next practice, Wed. Nov. 8th.

Player Goal Homework:

On Wednesday nights practice (11/1), I talked to the boys about our team goals and player goals.  At the end of practice, I handed each of them two pieces of paper.

  1. Team Goals:  A list of our team goals that I ask them to hang or have somewhere they will see frequently.
  2. Player Goals: A goal sheet where they needed to list three goals, leaving the “Measure” blank for now, as the coaches and I will determine how to measure whatever their goal is.  If they lost the form, just have them write down their three goals on a piece of paper and bring it to practice.  I ask they turn in their goals back to me at our next practice Wednesday, Nov. 8th.

Wow that was a lot I’m sorry, but let me know if you have any questions.
