Unable to Attend Tryouts
If your player cannot attend tryouts for a medical or other reasons (ie: religious or family event), please contact Leslie Raida ( girlstravelingdirector@gmail.com ), Blaine Youth Basketball Girls Travel Director, prior to tryouts. Without a 2024 tryout evaluation, we will review the prior year tryout evaluation and talk with the former coach. New players without a 2024 tryout evaluation will need approval from the Blaine Youth Basketball Girls Committee to be placed on a team.

Appropriate Attire
Each player will be given a tryout jersey during check in with a number used to identify them on evaluations. Players should be dressed ready to play basketball.  Players can keep this jersey for practices during the season.

Tryout Process

The evaluation process will be conducted by the Blaine High School Girls Varsity Staff and skilled evaluators. Blaine Youth Basketball has a great relationship with the high school basketball program and we value that partnership and have worked together to conduct a tryout experience that is fair to all players allowing them to showcase their abilities.

Blaine Youth Basketball coaches may be running drills, stations, and organizing competitions.

Members from the Blaine Youth Basketball Board will be on site providing assistance and performing administrative duties.

The evaluation will be based on individual skill including shooting, finishing with both hands, dribbling, passing, footwork, and other basketball skills.  The evaluation will also be based on competition including  1-on-1, 3-on-3, and 5-on-5. Within the competition, evaluators will be looking for how players translate their individual skills to live scenarios and other important skills like teamwork, communication, rebounding, defensive ability, running the floor, athleticism and overall basketball IQ.

Each player will receive a score of 1-5 on the specific skills we are assessing. All scores will be taken into account and averaged to determine an overall score for each player. These scores are then used to help assemble teams.

Blaine Youth Basketball reserves the rights to limit or expand the number of teams based on the number of players that tryout, the talent demonstrated, competitive opportunities and coach availability.

Post Tryouts
Girls teams will be selected and posted on the Blaine Youth Basketball Website by 6:00 PM on Friday, September 27th. If your daughter is not placed on a team, she will automatically be placed into our In-House program. The tryout fee of $25 is non-refundable, but any season fees paid above and beyond the in-house season fee would be refunded.

If you have any questions after the tryout process, please contact  Leslie Raida ( girlstravelingdirector@gmail.com  ) , Blaine Youth Basketball Girls Traveling Director.
